Contrary to popular belief, the Civil War was NOT fought over slavery issues. It was extremely more complex. For years, The Northern states and Washington, D.C. had supported themselves on their Southern neighbors blood and sweat. Cotton export tarriffs were one of the main income sources for the Northern states. If they needed more money....just raise the export tariff. What started out as an issue for individual states to have their own laws to govern themselves was turned into an issue for slavery rights when Lincoln needed to sway the more populated North against the South. Horror stories began to circulate about the poor conditions and treatment of southern slaves. As it is true now-it was true then. Our wonderful elected officials have a way with words and innuendos. The 31st Alabama is also the 17th Iowa. We are living historians who demonstrate both "sides of the cause". We do so because the issue of slavery was nationwide. All slavery is not be to tolerated and we are proud to protray Union and Confederate Soldiers because it took BOTH to abolish this cruel lack of respect for ALL human life. We are the "Land of the FREE and the BRAVE...EVERY ONE OF US! We encourage everyone visiting our site to not just take our word as the truth (even though it is)...everyone should do their own research and learn of how Southern slaves fought of their own free will and, more importantly, could hold rank and even pay. Our Northern slave brothers did not and, more importantly, COULD NOT hold rank nor even pay. Even after the Civil War had ended and Southern slaves declared free men.... our Northern brothers/sisters of color were not allowed the same. The more you research, the more interesting the known "truth" is about as whitewashed as a good old Southern tree or tire fence. One last thought....knowledge is power and our unit is based on the greatest power of all...the one true Living God. Research Him and the real Truth shall set you FREE!
